Kenya Railways Corporation is in the process of rebuilding 31 trains through Numerical Machinery Complex (NMC) Limited. KRC chairman Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Pastor Awitta confirmed on Wednesday.
The process of refurbishing the old locomotives is being done in a partnership between Numerical Machine Complex Limited and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
“Among the 31 trains, 9 are being rehabilitated and 22 others are undergoing an overhaul, ” read KRC statement.
Once completed, the project will boost transportation of goods and pasangers from and to towns of Mombasa, Nairobi Kisumu, Nakuru and Naivasha. The rails are expected to connect Uganda and Tanzania as well.
