Maasai Mara University lost one of its students on Saturday afternoon when the student drowned in Enkare Narok River. The body of Moses Fortune has now been retrieved and taken to Narok County Referral Hospital morgue.
The late Fortune was a literature and theatre student and class representative, the University management confirmed.
The dean of students at Maasai Mara University, Mr Mohammed Aden gave a statement explaining what led to drowning of Moses. He said Moses was in a company of his friends with whom they decided to go for an adventure.
“Colleagues claimed that the student decided to swim but unfortunately, he did not manage to emerge minutes after diving, prompting his peers to raise the alarm in the 1.30pm mishap,” said Mr Aden in a statement to the press.
Police officers from Maasai Mara University Police post oversaw the retrieval of the body.
The university also confirmed that in the same spot seven years ago, other university drowned. It is also said that some time back a prisoner and a prison warden also drowned in the same spot.
