President Kenyatta on Tuesday February unveiled a new state department to see the implementation of the Novel Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
The State Department for the Implementation of Curriculum will entirely be in charge of the new Curriculum.
The head of state announced the Changes in the Ministry of Education at a conference at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). At the Conference, The president expressed his confidence in the new curriculum saying it will enable Kenya’s Education System relevant to the current demands anywhere in the world.

“The summons of our times requires us to re-imagine how we have educated our children. It requires us to be bold, and not rigid. It calls us to imagine a system that creates responsible citizens as opposed to subjects; a system that celebrates the creative potential of all our children as opposed to one that leaves them with labels of failure, if they do not pass exams,” said the President, in Part of his speech.
The Competency based curriculum was set to Replace the old 8 – 4 – 4 system of education. CBC is basically designed to give emphasis to the significance of nurturing skills and knowledge and also applying those competencies to real life situations.
