Court Nullifies UASU KU Chapter Elections

Justice James Rika of Employment and Labour Relations Court has today ruled that elections for Universities and Academic Staff Union, Kenyatta University Chapter, conducted on March 25, 2021, did not meet the required threshold because some members did not participate.

The election case was filed by four members challenging the fairness of the process after 147 members were excluded from taking part in the election in disregard to the advice of Registrar of Trade Unions.

Justice Rika noted that the board prevented members who wanted to renew their subscription hence no candidate can claim victory in the flown election.

Registrar of Trade Unions will therefore not register the March poles and fresh elections are to be held in the next 60 days.
