The IEBC has been temporarily barred by the court from clearing former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi sonko from August race pending hearing of the case.
The three groups: Haki Yetu, Kituo Cha Sheria, and Transparency International have argued that, “The election calender is time bound and there is a likelihood that if the interim order is not granted and the case dealt with, IEBC is likely to clear Sonko and have his name on the ballot paper for election in the office of the governor Mombasa.”
The groups argued on the basis of the fact that Mr. Sonko was removed from Nairobi governors office on integrity grounds and is equally unsuitable to hold any other public office.
Mr. Sonko was charged with corruption and a trial barred him from accessing his office pending determination.
