Top government officials including President Ruto, Deputy President, MPs, governors and PS’s are set to receive a pay rise for the next two years starting next month.
The pay rise is meant to caution them from biting inflation that has befell the country from the onset of Covid 19 leading to high cost of living, basic commodities and eroding sources of income to many Kenyans.
This will be in contrast to other salaried workers and those in the informal sector who will continue to face biting cost of survival.

If the bill is approved other top government personnel who will benefit in the salaries increase include: the Inspector-General of Police, principal secretaries, the Chief Justice, the Auditor-General, judges, the Deputy Chief Justice, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the chairpersons of key commissions such as the IEBC.
The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) invites the public to give their consent of the proposal before it’s gazetted.
The SRC had previously warned the government that continued increase in wage bill has and will continue to crowd out resources for other development and service delivery.
