Thousands of youths conned in non-existent ‘Mara Crescent’ Job

Police have begun investigation into an incident where scammers minted millions of shillings from unsuspecting youths in a non-existing job application.

The fraudster’s who posted as managers of ‘Mara crescent Resort” – which does not exists, receive money in terms of ‘facilitation fee’ from youths who applied to work at the ‘Luxurious Hotel’.

The job advert which said there were opening positions for waiter, chefs, front desk and receptionist,  promised good salary, and free accommodation at the hotel.

“We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, friendly staff, to be part of our opening team at the Mara Crescent. At Mara Crescent, we believe your attitude is more important than anything. This is why we wish to recruit dynamic, result-oriented and committed individuals to serve within the resort and on game drives,” read part of the fake job advert on the website;

Many of the scammed victims who travelled from different parts of the country were stranded at Sekenani Gate of Maasai Mara when they learned the job they paid for and got appointment letter online was a fake.

Some of the conned victims paid as much as Ksh 2,700 each for medical certificates. They got appointment letters online with reporting dates although without an interview.

“I was given a reporting date and was in constant communication with an official at the company. When I reached the Maasai Mara Game Reserve entrance, his phone went off. I later learnt that it was all a hoax and many others had been conned,” One of the Victims told Nation.
