The Consumers Federation of Kenya (Cofek) has recently warned Kenyans to stop taking indomie following reports that the popular instant nodule has high residue of aflotoxins and pesticide residues.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), had warned its member states to stop the importation of the commodity until investigations is completed on it.
“We advice consumers to refrain from either consuming and or purchasing any imported indomie until necessary verification is conducted by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and other relevant agencies” COFEK said.
The Egytian Authorities had in the recent past conducted food safely test and found aflotoxins and residues of pesticides exceeding safe limits in Indomie’s chili packets and chicken and vegetable flavor packets.

Long-term exposure to aflotoxins has always been associated to various complications like growth retardation, cirrhosis, and other liver diseases.
On the other hand increased exposure to pesticides is linked to a number of brain diseases and several types of cancers.
