South Korea’s hit movie, ‘Squid Game’ has spurred global interest in learning Korea

According to Reuters, interest in learning Korean language has dramatically increased since the release of recent Netflix’s hit Show, ‘Squid Game’.

Tutoring services reported a growing number people obsessed with Korean culture, from language, entertainment to beauty products.

‘Squid Game’, a thriller movie which centers on a contest where 456 players, drawn from different walks of life but each deeply in debt, play a set of children’s games with deadly penalties for losing for the chance to win 45.6 billion won ($38.19 million), is a said to have spurred both beginners and existing students hoping to improve their skills in the Korean Language.

“Duolingo reported a 76% rise in new users signing up to learn Korean in Britain and 40% in the United States over the two weeks following the show’s premiere,” Reuters.
