Sonko denied bail, charged with robbery with violence, destruction of property and assault

Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko will remain in police custody as he awaits ruling on his bail application.

The flamboyant former City boss will be held at Gigiri police station until Thursday, the court ruled.

Sonko denied charges of destruction of property, assault and robbery with violence in a Kiambu court on Tuesday.

He is accused, together with others of assaulting people at a property in Buruburu causing body injuries. He was also charged with entering a private property without a search warrant.

Appearing before Kiambu senior principal magistrate Stella Ataambo, the prosecutor in Sonko’s case requested for his detainment pending conclusion of investigation while fearing the possibility of him interfering with witnesses.

In the past few days, Sonko been has been in trouble with the Justice system after he was summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for claiming that he and other officials in Government burned vehicles during the 2017 General elections to defame ODM party. Among the officials he mentioned is Interior PS Karanja Kibicho.
