Mombasa port may lose millions worth of Cargo it handles should South Sudan go ahead with its plans to start using the Djibouti port route through Ethiopia, saying it’s much shorter than the port of Mombasa.

Kenya is however downplaying the idea saying it is a matter has not reached a worrying point and they have not received official notice on the same.

However deputy of South Sudan’s chamber of commerce Lago Lukak said the south Sudan government is already in talks with the Djibouti government to use Djibouti port through Ethiopia.

In 2019 President Kenyatta ordered allocation of 10 acres of land for the construction of dry port in Naivasha to act as incentive for neighboring countries to use Kenyan ports as transit for their various goods.

Highways such as Eldoret – Lokichoggio – Nedapal – Kapoeta – Torit – Juba have been completed to easy transport between Kenya and South Sudan.
