In case Vladimir Putin will stay in power until 2036 he would become Russian longest serving ruler exceeding Joseph Stalin after Peter the Great.
Putin has formally signed new legislation giving him the chance to stay in power until 2036.
Putin has now rule Russia for 20 year. First elected to 2000, his term was supposed to end in 2014 but thanks to a referendum carried out last year to amend 200 bundles of the constitution. “Russians voted yes or no to a bundle of over 200 amendments to their Constitution. The changes included social protections like guaranteed minimum pensions and the enshrining in the document of traditionalist ideology — including an affirmation of Russians’ faith in God and a definition of marriage as possible only between a man and a woman,” According to Moscow Times.
In the referendum, one of the critical amendments was scrapping of President Term limit, allowing Putin to run for two more six-year presidential terms.
Putin now 68 years may leave the office at the age of 83 in case he decides to go for another presidential election.
The Russian President however says that he has not made up his mind to run for 2024 Presidential election citing that “it is too far.”
