Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on Thursday met Deputy President Willian Ruto at his kilgoris Farm in Narok in a six hour meeting raising eye brows of a possible new political alliance between the two.
In attendance was Narok west Member of Parliament Gabriel Tongoyo, Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kiujuri, and former Sports Cabinet secretary Rashid Echesa.
It is however not clear whether Oparanya attended the meeting on his personal behalf or on behalf of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in which he is the party deputy leader.
Oparanya however cleared the air saying Deputy Ruto requested for a Coalition between ODM of UDA.
“It was a chance meeting; being a politician, the DP asked if we can work together. I told him such a decision has to be made by the party (ODM),” Oparanya said as quoted by Daily Nation.
Of late Governor Oparanya has been at odds with ODM party. On Tuesday he said the country cannot hold the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Referendum amidst the Covid -19 pandemic and added that the process will cost huge sum of money, a comment that seems to differ with the majority of ODM party members.
