Sources in Rome Italy have said that Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Luca Attanasio was killed when his convoy came under attack near Goma.
The ambassador was in a convoy of World Food Program (WFP) and on a field trip in the Eastern part of the when they we ambused.
DRC’s army spokesman in North Kivu also confirmed to the AFP that two more people died in the ambush. .
Italian President Sergio Mattarella condemned the attack calling it “cowardly attack.”
Antonio has been Italian ambassador to Congo for the last five years. He previously serviced his country diplomatically in Morocco, Switzerland and Nigeria. He joined Italian Diplomatic community in 2003.
