The spokesman of Iranian Judiciary Gholamhossein Esmaili told the press on Tuesday that Iran had noticed The International Criminal Police Organization requesting them to arrest Donult Trump and 47 other American officials for taking part in the assassination of top general Qassem Soleimani the previous year.
Briefing the reporters, Esmaili said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is very seriously following up on pursuing and punishing those who ordered and executed this crime.”
Iran’s top general, Soleimani, who led the foreign operations arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was assassinated on January 3, 2020, in a US drone strike in Baghdad ordered by Trump.
Agnes Callamard who is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions deemed the assassination of the top Iranian general against international law.
This is the second request for the arrest of Trump and other US officials. In June last year Ali Alqasimehr, Tehran Prosecutor announced an arrest warrant for Trump and other American officials stating they should face “murder and terrorism charges’ but France – based Interpol rejected the request claiming its constitution forbids it from undertaking “any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character”.
Iran hopes the fact that US President is soon leaving office on January 20th could boost its bead of quest to prosecute him.
