Guinea Coup Leader, Col Mamady Doumbouya sworn in as country’s president

Col Mamady Doumbouya has been sworn in as an interim presidents weeks after leading a coup that overthrew Alpha Condé.

Guinea’s military takeover of power was widely condemned the world over with Ecowas and African Union suspending the country.

Ecowas demanded a return of civilian rule as it sunctionsed the cop leaders.

The now Guinea’s Interim President Col Mamady Doumbouya is said to be a close friend to Mali’s Assimi Goïta who also led a military coup that deposed Mali’s elected President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

According to AFP, Doumbouya said his mission is to remake the country by giving it a new constitution, combating corruption and availing a free and fair electoral reforms.

The Military Junta has however not specified how long it will remain in power before handing the power back to civilian rule.

The colonel remained a low profile officer before rise to power but boasts of international military experience. He trained in France and served in the French military.

He also served in military missions in Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Central African Republic and close protection in Israel, Cyprus, the UK and Guinea.
