Boda boda operators countrywide put under Police Radar

The Police has put boda boda riders under notice following reported cases of their lawlessness and impunity in different parts of the country.

Inspector of police Hillary Mutyambai noted that boda boda riders are posing great threat to public safety and security.

In a press statement posted on National Police Service official tweeter account dated 28th January, Mutyambai was responding to situations where victims in accidents in which boda boda riders are involved have been assaulted and in some instances their vehicles burned.

A case in hand is a situation where angry bodaboda rides burned a car after it knocked one of their own. The man who was only identified as Fred faced the fury of angry boda boda riders after he hit one of them who was attempting to overtake on a blind corner. Luckily, he was able to stop on time and although the boda boda ride survived, the bike was extensively damaged.

In October last year Retired Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Julius Karangi surprised mourners at a burial in Kirinyaga County when he recounted a recent incident where boda boda operators had threatened to lynch him following an accident involving one of them.

Inspector General of Police stressed that Boda boda riders must adhere to all traffic regulations, and all laws of public, order and decency, failure to which they will be dealt with in accordance with the law individually.

“I advise them, and indeed all Kenyans that should they be involved in an accident or any other incident of security in nature, let them report to the nearest police station or security office”, Mutyambai Said.
